Sticky Love

Remember when you spent every waking moment with your girlfriend or boyfriend.  You spent all day together and when you had to go home you would call and talk to each other til one of you decided to be the one to hang up.  Now you’re married.  Can anyone say they still have that kind of a relationship?  Even anything remotely close to it?  If not, what’s missing?

In most cases your relationship with your husband or wife started out as friends.  As that friendship grew you started having feelings for each other and then you fell in love.  You get married and in the newness of marriage your friendship is still strong.  I Love You Post ItYou start careers and have children.  You find that the friendship you both shared has turned into a utilitarian relationship.  Sometimes days go by without a good conversation between the both of you.  So that’s what I think is missing from our relationships. Friendship.

So what do we have to do to rekindle that friendship you once had?  Miranda and I gave the Family First class an exercise to do for the rest of the month.  We handed out sticky pads to every couple.  What they have to do is write a little love note to each other everyday.  You might think that sounds silly.  I have heard some great reports from some couples who have given this a shot.  Miranda and I have done this as well.  It’s a fun way to communicate and will open doors to further communication.  Which, as we have said many times, is the key to any relationship.  Give it a shot.  Find out how much fun it is to tell your husband or wife you love them in as many ways as possible.  You will at least smile.
